The Montpellier Saint-Roch multimodal interchange hub

Launch of a public consultation into the Montpellier Saint-Roch Multimodal Interchange Hub.

The planned Montpellier Saint-Roch Multimodal Interchange Hub will transform the current train station into a transport hub by September 2014 as part of a huge intermodal and urban development project.
It is a piece of the operation to develop the new Nouveau St Roch district, a 50,000 sq m development project mainly made up of blocks of flats (1500 apartments) but also including offices and businesses with new road access and specially constructed parking facilities. It will be served by a rapidly growing public transport network.  There are 2 existing tramlines and 2 additional lines are planned for 2012.
The project is being run by a partnership including the French Government, the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Council, the Hérault Département, the Montpellier Agglomeration, the City of Montpellier, RFF and SNCF-Gares & Connexions.
The City of Montpellier is responsible for redeveloping the areas around the interchange hub, and RFF is upgrading platform accessibility to comply with standards.
The project design aims to relieve congestion in the station and allow for increased railway services, improve access to various modes of transport,  (pedestrians, bicycles, trams, buses, taxis, car park access, regional and national trains), create links between different parts of the city and renew the image of the station in the local area. A key part of the work involves improving access for people with disabilities.
The project includes a large central hall which will allow a new covered walkway from the Pont de Sète to the Pont de Lattes, giving access to the platforms and other services. New platform access routes will be created, which will be lit by large skylights. Garden terraces containing a range of plants and trees will be built as outdoor waiting areas.
New entrances will be built on the Pont de Lattes, on the Rue des Deux Ponts, on the Pont de Sète and the new forecourt which will open into the new Nouveau Saint-Roch estate.

The Montpellier Saint Roch Multimodal Interchange Hub plans will be submitted for official public consultation, from Monday 6 June 2011 to Friday 8 July 2011 inclusive.

Mr Jean-François DEMOULIN, a retired public works engineer, has been appointed to lead the consultation by Montpellier's administrative court.
Throughout this period, the consultation documents and a register will be available to the public at Montpellier City Hall during opening hours
Those who wish to do so will be able to read the documents and make any comments in the register, or send them in writing to the consultation leader at Montpellier City Hall.
He will be available at the City Hall to hear comments and requests for more information on the following dates :
- Monday 6 June 2011 from 2pm to 5pm
- Thursday 23 June 2011 from 9am to noon
- Friday 8 July 2011 from 2pm to 5pm
