Nice-Thiers Station

Nice-Thiers Multimodal Interchange Hub : Preliminary Consultation from 25 May to 24 June 2011

Faced with the high increase in train services boosted by the PACA Region and the development in urban transport in the Nice area, one thing is clear: the station needs to be redesigned so it welcomes in comfort and safety the increasing passenger flows it is already experiencing and will continue to experience over the years to come.
The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, the Alpes-Maritimes Département, the Nice Côte d'Azur Community, Réseau Ferré de France and the SNCF are partners in the project, and have decided that the station should be redeveloped into a multimodal interchange hub in line with plans for urban renovation. The station is located in the town centre and is therefore an important link in the urban renovation undertaken by the town and Nice Côte d'Azur Council.
Gares & Connexions, the SNCF's new business unit dedicated to managing and developing 3,000 French stations, has therefore conceived a project in partnership with the local authorities which will both provide a living and service area in the town centre and turn the future Nice-Thiers Multimodal Interchange into a large hub with connections between different modes of transport.
By 2015, residents of Nice and passengers using the Côte d'Azur railway lines will have accessible intermodal facilities with renovated and environmentally responsible architecture, offering new services and a high level of comfort.
Article L.300-2 of the Urban Planning Code specifies that a consultation must be held for any development project which by its scope or nature substantially changes the quality of life or the economic activity of the town.
Nice Côte d'Azur Council met on 18 April 2011 and approved the preliminary consultation procedures that Gares & Connexions would like to put in place with the residents for the Nice-Thiers Multimodal Interchange Hub project.
The preliminary consultation is being advertised by posters and the press, and will be held from 25 May to 24 June 2011. During this time, anyone can make their views about the project known; a suggestions book is available in the Nice station during ticket office opening hours from Monday to Saturday. Everyone is invited to take part in the debate in the public meeting presenting the Nice-Thiers Multimodal Interchange Hub project which is to be held on 25 May 2011 at 6:30 pm at the Théâtre de la Photographie et de l'Image (27, boulevard Dubouchage, Nice).
