Grenoble station

Grenoble is changing, developing and growing.

Grenoble station was constructed for the 1968 Winter Olympic Games. It created a new way in to Grenoble. The City of Grenoble now runs a range of transport services that intersect at the station, which have required a number of changes to the site. Grenoble station is projected to receive increasing numbers of passengers. It does not currently have the capacity for higher levels of demand. Now is the time to plan and launch a new project to transform the station into an efficient interchange hub that will be able to meet new requirements and demand.

There are 4 main objectives:

    • Accommodate increasing numbers of passengers
    • Modernise in-station services and improve comfort for all
    • Improve connections and access to all modes of transport available at the station
    • Transform Grenoble station into a modern urban interchange hub, reflecting the city it is part of.

This ambitious project has brought together the French, Regional and Isère département governments, the Grenoble Alpes Métropole council, the City of Grenoble, the regional transport commissioning body, RFF and the SNCF. At the request of these partners, Gares & Connexions, the new SNCF Business Unit dedicated to managing and developing the 3000 French stations, has carried out feasibility studies and produced an initial project presentation.

Grenoble residents and station users are being invited to tell us what they think and give us their suggestions. Their input will provide the basis for a summary report which will feed into the design process and be used to create a definitive project which meets the expectations of local players.

Gares & Connexions is the sole Project Owner, and is inviting residents to give their feedback in a variety of ways from 28 November 2011 to 28 February 2012.

The first stage will be a public meeting on Friday 16 December at 6:30pm in the Auditorium at the Musée de Grenoble, 5 Place de Lavalette.

Two registers will be set up:

A permanent register on the station concourse,
A second register that will move between the City Hall and the 'Station Mobile' building.
You will be able to enter your suggestions, comments and advice until 28 February 2012.
